When reviewing trends across the collaborative teams, the MLT, with support from the district and site leaders, can use these data to inform professional learning. Not only must mathematics leaders model the HLTAs, they must also provide the conditions necessary to support the HLTAs before, during, and after the unit. Professional learning and clear communication about the HLTAs can help ensure that collaborative teams practice the HLTAs in alignment with the district’s vision for mathematics teaching and learning. First and foremost, collaborative teams must be aware of the HLTAs. They must understand how to engage in these research-affirmed actions and meet the expectations of evidence gathering, analysis, and collective inquiry. However, to accomplish these tasks effectively, teams need to know how to work together collaboratively. Let’s take a look at how teams can move beyond mere cooperation and become truly collaborative as they work together to improve mathematics teaching and learning.
